New Years wishes and New Year resolutions

New Years Eve can feel quite long, especially for kids. But the evening can also be used to make some wishes and dreams for the new year and to see what has happened in the year that has passed.
Here is a suggestion for a fun family activity to make on New Years Eve and an idea for a New Years resolution that can bring happiness to yourself (& your family) all year πŸ™‚

The kids and the family first:
Depending on the age of the children, they or the entire family can draw and write wishes for the new year. Not like a wishlist for Christmas, but experiences that you all would like to have; e.g. read more books together, go on more picknicks, laugh more everyday, play more boardgames, go swimming more often etc.
It can be a really good way to see what your kids actually dream about and what means the most to them in your everyday life. I asked Philomena yesterday if she had any wishes for 2016, her biggest wish was to go to an amusement park with her best friend. And now I can plan it because I know her wish πŸ˜‰

What the kids or the family write/ draws can be put on the wall for inspiration for the year or it can be put into an envelope and hidden until next New Years Eve. Then you can open the envelope together and see what actually happened through the year and if there are new wishes.

An easy parent- New Year resolution:
Last Christmas I bought a cheap calender -one of those with one page pr. day.
And then I made a New Years resolution to write down the best experiences each day brought.
Calender for happy New Years resolutions
By doing that I focus on all the good things that happens, whether it’s “small” things like getting a big hug, that Philomena came to school safe and happy etc. or bigger things like having a great and fun day at an amusement park, that my examination went well etc.

To focus on the good experinces each day makes me more happy, which I believe makes me a better mother, because I’m not using all my energy on the things thats not going well.
And on top of it it’s almost like a small diary, that I can look through and see some of the good things we have experienced through the year. Then I remember all the lovely, amazing, fun and crazy things we experienced. (It’s really nice to do on rainy days) πŸ™‚

I hope You’ll get a NICE New Years Eve (as my calender says) and that 2016 will be a FANTASTIC year πŸ˜€
